The 30th Annual National Black Dog 2-Day Dualsport and Adventure Ride is slated for June 11~12, 2022! (plus a short/free, friday-night ride!) $400 cash prize to one lucky, 2-day entrant!
Friday-night riders! Be SURE you have a way to light up your roll chart holder (Here's one way), plus have your headlight aimed properly! Or go big and get a set of Trail-Tech helmet lights! | Be sure and bring your guitar, harmonica, jug or whatever and join the campfire party in the evening! |

Dualsport Definition: a street-legal, on/off-road motorbike capable of traversing trails or tarmac and everything in between.
Adventure Definition: a larger, street-legal, on/off-road motorbike (or sidecar) capable of extended trips traversing dirt or gravel roads along with tarmac. |
Course descriptions for our events Note: this is assuming dry weather conditions. Inclement weather or fire danger will dictate probably running only B or C courses, so as not to damage trails. Letter designations are in key with typical AMA enduro class descriptions. |
AA: VERY DIFFICULT [extremely advanced] - sophisticated and complex trails that are only passable by a real dirt bike. Extreme uphills/downhills and trials-like sections, which require lower gearing. Aggressive knobbies required. |
A: DIFFICULT [advanced] - plenty of challenging trail that requires advanced trail techniques. Aggressive knobbies highly suggested. |
B: MODERATE [normal] - moderate or mild trail skills required. Larger single-cylinder or two-up bikes should easily traverse these sections. Generally passable by an advanced Jeep/driver combo. Regular dualsport tires are acceptable. |
C: EASY [very easy] - practically no trail. Mostly gravel road. Passable by large 2-cylinder bikes, two-up, sidecars or most any 4-wheel drive. Regular dualsport tires are acceptable. |
Here's a helpful check-off list of things to do before showing up for this event:
|
NOTE: we will not have the ability to process credit cards at the event's signup, so remember to have cash or a check! And don't worry if you think we're full - we've never turned anyone away yet, so show up! Also, no more pre-entries accepted beginning June 4 - post entries only after!
NOTE1: Wonder why the Black Dog is NOT on AMA's national listing this year? Because they are now requiring ALL entries be AMA members. We wholeheartedly support the AMA (we are a lifetime membership!), but realize that there are many of you riders that cannot afford the membership, hence we are not on the AMA listing, however we STILL will have a national-caliber event!
1/13/23: After 30 years, we're done doing the Black Dog, we're still hosting the Dog Face Ride in Southern Oregon, so come to ride it!
6/19/22: Here's some leftover videos and pictures from this year's event. CLICK HERE to check it out!
6/7/22: Here's a little video sample of what to expect at this year's Black Dog Ride! Click here!
6/6/22: Pre-entries are DONE, and we cannot take more now, since we're busy on the courses! You will now need to enter at the event. Wow, tons of snow up top, so we have to go low level, plus the dreaded Hood River Bridge will be closed, so reroutes are in order for that too! See y'all there!
5/29/22: Pre-entries are updated and it's getting close! Rumor mill: after 30 years of hosting this event, this may be the last one!
4/4/22: All the pre-entries are in! Let me know if any changes need to be made. It's getting close!
4/1/22: Many of the entries have been added, but I have to take a break today - to go riding! Expect more updates soon!
3/1/22: We had some computer memory problems, which some new sticks appeared to fix the problem (apologies for the delays). Will now be updating the website and full speed ahead!
2/10/22 Having some computer problems, but the date for this year's Black Dog Ride is in fact June 11-12, so put it on your calendars!
5/28/21: 5/28 has come and we're leaving tomorrow to finish laying out courses (yes, it takes a week!), so don't expect any more communication until the event! (Yes, we mailed the Poopsheet to the people who sent envelopes)
5/27/21: The last day for the cheaper preregistration is tomorrow 5/28, so don't wait and sign up now! Post entries at the event will be more!
5/26/21: The pre-ride Poopsheet is uploaded and you can read it by CLICKING HERE!
5/25/21: The pre-entries are updated yet again. It's gonna be a banner year! CLICK HERE to see the Black Dog video from 2019!
5/7/21: The pre-entries are all up to date. If something is not right, let us know!
5/6/21: I received no call from them, so we are moving forward anyways...
5/4/21: I called them on Monday and they will let me know on Wednesday. Sheesh. I think we will just move forward like normal (with pre-entries) and hope we don't get the rug pulled out on us!
5/2/21: I will call the Mt. Hood USFS tomorrow to find out if the Black Dog will be a go or not. Cross you fingers!
4/29/21: Our Governor is making demands tomorrow. Let's hope it doesn't affect the Black Dog Ride!
4/25/21: Pre entries are being updated now!
3/19/21: It's a go and we're moving forward! There has been some delays with permits (due to Covid), but we're making head way! Hang tough!
3/1/21: It's a go! Sorry for the delays, but wanted to ensure the permits were good to go, so barring any more ultimatums from our Governor, we are planning on 6/5~6/21! See you there!
3/31/20: Well, we got a call from the County Fairgrounds and, since the forest is now closed (both national and county), we've decided to cancel this year's event due to the COVID 19 Virus issue. We are VERY SORRY, but we would NOT want someone to get infected and be unhealthy due to our event! However the September 19~20 Dog Face Ride is still on and we urge everyone to attend it! We will issue refunds or credit towards future events. SORRY!
3/20/20: Well, we decided to give things a couple weeks to confirm/deny whether the virus situation gets worse or not. IF things get worse, we will cancel and refund all the pre-entries (there are plenty). IF not, then it's full speed ahead. Stay tuned!
